    Crusty's Tools
The only problem I had with making them is milling off the wrong side on the second cut. I had to go to the hardware store twice more than should have been required.

Some quality time with needle files is also required to get them operating smoothly.
If you can't make it precise make it adjustable.

I'm guessing you cross drilled a clearance hole through the coupler first. Then milled the appropriate portions of the sides away. I like the idea of a washer with a recess, too. Looks like a very handy setup.

I have looked at this a dozen times and could see the principal.. so I spent a half hour of my life to make one- took a bit of drilling and rattail file work to make functional but then I wondered how to keep it engaged. So thanks for your comment- I love creative minds and you, Sir, have one. Gene

One can also weld this up from two half-nuts.
I'm thinking of a vise that has a lever on the side that engage and disengages this 'flip nut' so one can quickly move the dynamic jaw.
    Trickery, trickery!

    Thanks!

we had quick nuts on our seat&guide machine. basicly the hole wad drilled at a slight agle to the flat and the threads were square to the flat.just loosen a little and tilt to pull up or down. they work good but dont hold a lot of load.I think acme threads would be a better choice. I like the idea posted but I would add easy to turn flange around the center for ease of spining(tightening/ loosening)
