Always amazes me those who ride without proper gear, especially doing stuff like that. Looks like it was a modified scooter.

I'd have to think dropping the wheel back on the street after so many wheelies would have to affect the structure of the wheel at least a bit. Do it a bunch of times, and what do you expect?

Hard to tell without seeing the aftermath but it would appear that there is a lot more at play here than just hitting the brakes. I suspect braking just exposed the other already existing flaw.
Brake mounting bolts are usually much smaller than axle bolts.
If the axle is retained to the suspension with caps then I would suspect that the cap bolts either broke due to misuse or fell out do to insufficient installation.
Hitting the brakes just stopped the wheel but the bike (no longer connected to the wheel) just kept going.
The big question is: Did anyone learn anything or just pass the blame on to someone else?
Skinned knees and gravel chin can be a great teacher, or be ignored. That is all on the student...

I froze the video at 21 seconds, and you can see that there is more on the tire than just the hub. Looks like part of the front suspension is still there. Maybe a front-fork failure.

I used to know this moto-cross rider who's specialty was after a jump to land on only the rear tire and ride a wheelie all the rest of the way round the course. He never had the fastest times but was sure the showiest. I bet if he had been on that bike, he could have stopped and never allowed the front end to drop.
Never try to tell me it can't be done

If you're gonna mess about on a bike, you is gonna get hurt.

He was doing pretty good, until that sudden stop at the end...
