    Universal Grinding Fixture

This tool was designed to hold Lathe bits, boring bars, and round tool bits for sharpening or resharpening with the aid of a surface grinder, carbide tipped tools can be sharpened as well with a diamond wheel, carbide inserts can be reground with the appropriate made fixture to hold the insert,

Tool bits can be sharpened with great accuracy with razor sharpness, with this fixture the tool bit is held rigidly, no guessing at angles, any angle can be set in seconds.

There are three pivot points in which this fixture rotates and swivels on, each of those rotating points has a graduated collar, each graduation on the collar represents 2°, ranging from 90-0-90, the reference marks were carefully aligned and engraved accurately according to the zero marks on the collars, the graduated collars were made on my Machine Tool Dial Making Fixture that I previously posted on Home Made Tools. Net

All parts were constructed from 4140 steel although mild steel would be suitable, everything was ground flat and parallel insuring everything pulled up square.

To use this tool is very easy, just set it on the magnetic chuck of a surface grinder and turn on the magnet, set any desired angle and grind, it is helpful to do a rough grind on a bench grinder as this will reduce the amount of grinding on the surface grinder, to do a rough grind by hand is easily done by the aid of a protractor.

Down below you will find some photos of the construction and completed tool
As always thanks for looking and happy machining
